USC’s Justin Dedich Named to 2023 Rimington Trophy Watch List
August 04, 2023 | Football
LOS ANGELES—USC offensive lineman Justin Dedich earned placement on the 2023 Rimington Trophy Watch List today (Aug. 4). The Rimington Trophy is presented annually to the most outstanding center in NCAA Division I College Football.
Dedich has also been named to the 2023 Outland Trophy Watch List, Allstate AFCA Good Works Team Watch List and the Wuerffel Trophy Watch List. He was also selected to the 2023 Phil Steele Preseason All-Pac-12 First Team and All-American Fourth Team, Preseason All-Pac-12 Second Team and Athlon Preseason Sports All-Pac-12 Second Team.
Dedich, USC's most experienced lineman who has seen action at a multitude of positions, returns for his final season as a redshirt senior at center. In 2022, he started 11 games at right guard, 1 game at left guard and 1 game at center, filling in for the starter, Brett Neilon, after he suffered a season-ending injury. He was named to the Pro Football Focus All-American Third Team and was All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention. He helped the Trojan offensive line unit to be selected as a Joe Moore Award Semifinalist. Per PFF, he was the No. 7 graded guard in the nation in 2022.
This year, the Trophy committee worked with Pro Football Focus (PFF) to narrow down its list to the top 40 centers. PFF grades every player on every play of every game on how well they execute their given assignment. That play-by-play grading allowed the Trophy committee to create a watch list based both on nominations from the schools and data provided by PFF.
