August 03, 2023 | Football
LOS ANGELES—USC offensive lineman Justin Dedich earned placement on the 2023 Wuerffel Trophy Watch List today (Aug. 3). The Wuerffel Trophy is an award which honors community service.
Throughout his time at USC, Dedich has been very active in a variety of philanthropic endeavors including feeding the hungry throughout the Los Angeles community and spending time with sick children in the hospital.
Dedich, USC's most experienced lineman who has seen action at a multitude of positions, returns for his final season as a redshirt senior at center. In 2022, he started 11 games at right guard, 1 game at left guard and 1 game at center, filling in for the starter, Brett Neilon, after he suffered a season-ending injury. He was named to the Pro Football Focus All-American Third Team and was All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention. He helped the Trojan offensive line unit to be selected as a Joe Moore Award Semifinalist. Per PFF, he was the No. 7 graded guard in the nation in 2022.
Dedich has also been named to the 2023 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team Watch List and the Outland Trophy Watch List. Additionally, he was named to the Phil Steele Preseason All-Pac-12 First Team and All-American Fourth Team, Preseason All-Pac-12 Second Team and Athlon Sports Preseason All-Pac-12 Second Team.
The Wuerffel Trophy is named after Danny Wuerffel, the 1996 Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback from the University of Florida who parlayed his success on the football field into a lifetime of service. The Wuerffel Trophy embodies Danny's commitment to being a humanitarian, while honoring student-athletes who are inspired to serve others and make positive impacts on society.
The winner of the Wuerffel Trophy will be announced on The Home Depot College Football Awards, live on ESPN in December.
