Salute To Troy Kicks Off 2023 USC Football Season
August 23, 2023 | Trojan Athletic Fund
More than 2,000 Trojans came out last Friday, August 18, for the annual Salute to Troy celebration on USC's campus.
It was a night filled with pride for the Cardinal and Gold as USC Athletics celebrated the end of Fall Football Camp, the 50th Anniversary of our 1973 Football Team, the 25th Anniversary of our 1998 Football Team, and the historic three-peat of our National Championship Beach Volleyball program.
Allyson Felix field was buzzing with excitement as the Trojan Family played games, threw footballs, signed autographs, and shared a meal together. Fans of all ages enjoyed meeting USC student-athletes and posing for photos with Traveler. A gallery of event photos is available here.
The program included remarks from University President Carol Folt and an Athletic Department update from Interim Executive Administrator Denise Kwok.
Head Coach Lincoln Riley, assistant coaches, and players took the stage to wave hello and share their excitement for the upcoming season. Riley said, "I can't tell you how appreciative we are to play this game in front of an unbelievable fan base. People who appreciate the history of football and have seen some of the greatest moments in college football history are right here…Thank you so much for your support."
David "Pops" Scott was honored posthumously with the Marv Goux award, recognizing a Trojan Football Alumnus or Friend for outstanding support of the football program. Jonah Monheim, R.-Jr., was honored with the Bob Chandler Award. The Bob Chandler award is presented annually to an underclassman football player based on his athletic ability, academic scholarship, and character on and off the playing field. The award funds a scholarship for the player's full tuition, room, and board for the following year.
The evening ended with a spectacular fireworks display over Howard Jones Practice Field and palpable excitement for the start of the Football season.
The Trojans open their 2023 season next Saturday, August 26, at home against San Jose State. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 PM PST.
The Trojan Athletic Fund would like to thank all the donors, friends, family, staff, and student-athletes who supported this year's event. USC Athletics especially appreciates loyal Trojan and King's Seafood Co. owner Sam King, who generously provided a BBQ dinner for all Salute to Troy attendees.
As a reminder, Trojan Athletic Fund Members are invited to join us at Tommy's Tavern on Olympic Plaza at LA Memorial Coliseum before every home football game this fall. Learn more about the Trojan Athletic Fund and how to become a member here.
