August 01, 2023 | Football
LOS ANGELES—USC offensive linemen Justin Dedich and Jarrett Kingston were selected to the 2023 Outland Trophy Watch List today (Aug. 1). The Outland Trophy is annually awarded to the best college football interior lineman.
Dedich, USC's most experienced lineman who has seen action at a multitude of positions, returns for his final season as a redshirt senior at center. In 2022, he started 11 games at right guard, 1 game at left guard and 1 game at center, filling in for the starter, Brett Neilon, after he suffered a season-ending injury. He was named to the Pro Football Focus All-American Third Team and was All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention. He helped the Trojan offensive line unit to be selected as a Joe Moore Award Semifinalist. Per PFF, he was the No. 7 graded guard in the nation in 2022.
Dedich has also been named to the 2023 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team Watch List.
Kingston, a redshirt senior transfer, looks to make an immediate impact for the Trojans. In his 5-year career at Washington State (2018-22), Kingston appeared in 37 games on the offensive line with 26 starts (16 starts at left guard and 10 starts at left tackle). Last season, he was named to 2022 All- Pac-12 Conference Honorable Mention.
The only USC player to ever win the Outland Trophy is Ron Yary. He was a two-time All-American offensive tackle for the Trojans and was a unanimous All-American pick in 1967 when he won the Outland Trophy. That season he led the way for O.J. Simpson. The first player picked in the 1968 draft, he was a perennial All-Pro tackle with the Minnesota Vikings and also played for the Los Angeles Rams.
The nominees for the Outland Trophy are selected from all Division I schools and voted on by members of the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA). The recipient of the Outland Trophy will be announced on The Home Depot College Football Awards, live on ESPN in December.
