USC T&F To Be Well Represented At 2023 USATF Championships
July 05, 2023 | Track & Field
At least 25 Trojans will be competing for titles and spots to represent USA
The USC Track & Field program will be well represented at the 2023 USATF Outdoor Championships and USATF U20 Outdoor Championships to be held at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. from July 6-9. There is expected to be 15 members from the 2023 USC team competing, as well as another 10 previously graduated Trojans.
To qualify to represent USA at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary, from Aug. 19-27, an athlete has to meet the qualifying standard and finish in the top three of an event. To make the USA U20 team, an athlete has to finish in the top two of an event to qualify for the 2023 Pan American U20 Athletics Championships to be held in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico from Aug. 4-6.
USC has eight athletes from the current team competing in the USATF Outdoor Championships, which includes Johnny Brackins Jr. (LJ, 110m H), Jassani Carter (200m), Caisja Chandler (100m, 200m), Allie Jones (Heptathlon), Jan'Taijah Jones (400m), William Jones (400m), Bailey Lear (400m) and Bobby Poynter (800m).
Another seven members from the 2022-23 USC Track & Field team will be competing at the USATF U20 Championships. Those athletes include Bryce Brock (100m, 200m), Christine Mallard (400m), Tamaal Myers (400m H), Darius Rainey (800m), Lauren Reed (LJ, TJ), JC Stevenson (LJ) and Max Thomas (200m).
As one of America's premier track and field programs you would expect USC to have number of alumni competing, and as always, the graduated Trojans will be well represented, too. Among the former USC athletes taking part at the USATFs are Nia Ali, Angie Annelus, Celera Barnes, Rai Benjamin, Anna Cockrell, Kendall Ellis, Isaiah Jewett, Dalilah Muhammad, Michael Norman and TeeTee Terry.
