Nikolaos Polychroniou Earns 4 Points for USC Track & Field At NCAA Championships

Ojora advances to the NCAA final in the 110m hurdles
Nikolaos Polychroniou took fifth in the hammer throw and Tade Ojora advanced to the 110m hurdles final during the first day of the 2023 Men's NCAA Track & Field Championships held at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas today (June 7).
- Nikolaos Polychroniou began the day for the Trojans by placing fifth in the hammer throw with a PR of 238-4 (72.65m). His throw bettered his sixth-place standing on USC's all-time list and he became USC's highest scorer in the event since Conor McCullough won the NCAA hammer throw title in 2015. USC has now had 20 people score in the NCAA hammer throw final in the last 31 seasons. Polychroniou earned the USC men's team its first four points.
- Tade Ojora advanced to the 110m hurdles final on Friday by running a PR of 13.36 (+1.1) to take second in his event semifinal heat. His time was fourth overall among the qualifiers. Johnny Brackins Jr. had a time of 13.64 (+1.7) to take fifth in his heat and finish 15th overall to earn him second-team All-America honors in the event.
- JC Stevenson placed 10th in the long jump with a best leap on the day of 25-6.75/7.79m (+1.0). He was bumped to 10th during the final round, so he did not advance to the final, as the top nine jumpers after three rounds earned three final attempts. He also finished second among the freshman in the event.
- William Jones took third in his 400m semifinal and finished 12th overall with a time of 45.34. He will earn second-team All-America honors in the event. He was the only freshman in the country to reach the NCAA semifinal in the event.
- USC's 4x100m relay team of Matthew Okonkwo, Brendon Stewart, Chris Borzor and Ashton Allen began the running portion of the day with a season-best time of 38.75 to finish fifth in its semifinal heat and 13th overall. The team's time moved them into a tie for fifth-place on USC's all-time list. They will finish as second-team All-Americans.
- The 4x400m relay closed the day's action with a season-best time of 3:02.67 to take fifth in the first semifinal heat to finish 15th overall. USC ran a team of Johnny Brackins Jr., Ashton Allen, Matthew Okonkwo and William Jones and their time moved them to ninth on USC's all-time list and earned them second-team All-America honors. It took a time of 3:01.51 to advance to the NCAA final in the event.
