Sophomore Xin (Cindy) Kou fired a 3-under 68 for her second-best round of the season to propel No. 15 USC into third place after 36 holes of the Therese Hession Regional Challenge on Monday (Feb. 13) at the Â
The Trojans, who have won four times at this event, combined for a 3-over 287 second-round, the third-best effort of the day. They now sit third at 9-over 577 (290-287) and are seven back of first-place Stanford, five behind San Jose State. Three teams are within two strokes behind them.
Kou's 68 moved her into a tie for fifth at 2-under 140 (72-68) where she is four back of first, two out of second. She was 1-over through 5 after a bogey on 2, but heated up starting with a birdie on 6 and finished the final 13 holes at 4-under.
Her 68 marked her second sub-70 round this season and the 10th of her career, which moves her into a tie for 12th on USC's career chart. She is seeking her second top 10 this season.
Freshman Catherine Park carded her second 1-over 72 in a row and is tied for 15th at 2-over 74 as she vies for her third top 20 this season.
Sophomore Amari Avery is tied for 22nd at 4-over 146 (73-73) as she battled back from a slow start again, finishing her final 13 holes at 2-under.
Senior Malia Nam is tied for 36th at 6-over 148 (73-75) while juniors Brianna Navarrosa (75-74) and Christine Wang (74-75), who is playing as an individual, are tied for 42nd at 7-over 149.
