Dutch standout signs NLI to join the Trojans.
USC men's tennis has another influx of talent on its way to Troy with the addition of Netherlands product Lodewijk Weststrate, who recently signed a national letter of intent to join the Trojans, head coach Brett Masi has announced. A five-time Dutch junior champion in singles, Weststrate has also participated in all Junior Grand Slams.
"First off, hats off to our associate head coach Kris Kwinta for his efforts in recruiting Lodewijk to USC," Masi said. "We are pumped to have Lodewijk join the Trojan Family and be a part of this special group that we have here. With his international experience and great athleticism I know he will make a huge contribution to this team. He is an awesome individual from a wonderful family that exemplifies all the attributes of becoming a Trojan. He knows what it takes to come to USC and we can't wait to get him here next season."
Weststrate started his tennis career at age 5 and worked his way to No. 1 rankings as an under-12, under-14 and under-16. He represented the Netherlands at the European Team Championships at every age group, with the best finish as runner-up at U16. Weststrate also competed at the European Championships at the U12, U14, U16 and U18 levels.
His international success runs deeper with two singles titles and six doubles title in ITF Juniors, where he's climbed as high as No. 39 in those rankings. In ATP, Weststrate has top rankings at 1502 in singles and 1785 in doubles.
Weststrate joins Sean Holt as USC's two signees coming in for the 2020-21 season.
