Duo to bolster USC lineup come next season.
Krando Nishiba, from San Diego, Calif., and Joey Zambri, from Camarillo, Calif., have signed National Letters of Intent with USC, Trojan Men's Golf Head Coach Chris Zambri announced today.
Joey Zambri, a senior at Camarillo High, is the son of Coach Zambri. Nishiba graduated from La Jolla (Calif.) Country Day.
Nishiba had three top 6 finishes on the SCPGA Junior Tour in 2018 and five in the top 25. He had two in 2017, including a tie for second at the Toyota Tour Cup at Coto de Caza. He won the 2017 Rancho Santa Margarita Amateur by two strokes.
"I am so excited to welcome Krando Nishiba to our program," Coach Zambri said. "He is a superb golfer and an even better young man. Krando has been a longtime standout on the Southern California golf scene. He has won both junior tournaments and amateur tournaments during his pre-college career. He is an elite ball striker and I am looking forward to exploring ways that we can ride his exceptional skill in this area to some triumphs for him and for the team."
Joey Zambri was co-medalist at the 2019 U.S. Amateur qualifier at El Caballero C.C. at 3-under 139. He played in the U.S. Amateur last August.
He was the 2019 Ventura County Star's All-County Boys Golfer of the Year and won the Coastal Canyon League individual title twice in a row. He reached the CIF State regional qualifier three times and maintained a scoring average of 73.2 as a junior.
His 2019 season saw a pair of top 7 finishes on the SCPGA Junior Tour, including a tie for fourth at the Toyota Tour Cup at Ojai Valley Inn. He had seven top 25 finishes in 2018, including two in the top 10, and had three top 7 finishes in 2017.
"Joey has grown up in and around the USC Athletic Department," Coach Zambri said. "He has been a Trojan for as long as he can remember. With that, I am extremely happy and proud to welcome him as an official member of the USC Golf Team. He has put together a strong resume of playing good golf on a local, statewide, and national level. He is 'The Bear'."
