Trojans Win Six Events During Final Day Of The Beach Opener

Katnik & Palka post school top 10 marks
Mathew Katnik in the men's shot put, Cassidy Palka in the women's high jump, Omotade Ojora in the men's 110m hurdles, Nicole Yeargin (unattached) in the women's 400m, Cameron Samuel in the men's 400m and Zach Shinnick in the men's 200m all were event winners at the Beach Opener in Long Beach, Calif. today (March 7).
- Katnik won the men's shot put by nearly five feet with a PR of 64-8.50 (19.72m).Katnik's mark betters his fifth-place standing on USC's all-time shot put list.
- Cassidy Palka had a big PR of 5-11.25 (1.81m) to win the women's high jump competition. Palka moved into 10th place on USC's all-time women's high jump list.
- Ojora won the men's 110m hurdles with a time of 14.01 (+1.2).Zion Gordon had a time of 15.26 (+1.2) to finish 13th overall in the hurdles.
- Competing unattached Yeargin won the women's 400m race with an opening time of 53.91. Making it a 1-2 finish for the Trojans was Breanna Bernard-Joseph who finished second overall with a time of 55.92.
- Samuel won the men's 400m race with a time of 48.19, while Brayden Borquez took fourth with a time of 48.79.
- Shinnick won the men's 200m dash with a time of 20.78 (+1.6).Also running in the 200m today were Alexander Barnum who finished third with a time of 21.30 (+1.6), Borquez who was eighth with a time of 21.63 (+0.9), Nick Moore who was ninth also at 21.63 (+1.6), Ojora who was 11th at 21.78 (+0.9), Noah Green who was 16th at 21.91 (+2.9w) and Andrew Arth who was 28th at 22.69 (+2.9w).
- The men's 4x100m relay team of Barnum, Kenan Christon, Earvin da Silva and Moore had a season-opening time of 39.81 to finish second overall.Their time was 0.01 second behind the winning Team China 2019 team.
- Chioma Okonkwo took second in the women's 100m dash with a wind-aided time of 11.60 (+3.8w).
- Darryl Shaw finished second in the men's triple jump with a best leap of 49-5.50/15.07m (+0.5).His jump was the best among the collegians.
- Christon finished third in the men's 100m dash with a wind-aided time of 10.39 (+2.6w).da Silva had a wind-aided personal-best time of 10.48 (+3.8w) to finish seventh in the men's 100m and Gordon had a time of 10.91 (+1.2) to finish 25th.
- Devin Bright finished third in the men's 800m race with a PR of 1:53.99.
- Karlee Freeman took fourth in the women's discus throw with a best mark of 159-10 (48.73m).
- Jennifer Daly took sixth in the women's 800m with a time of 2:16.61.Also in the women's 800m today were Jatana Folston (9th, 2:17.86), Brynn Sauer (12th, 2:18.27), Abygail Paez (24th, slight PR of 2:21.70) and Brooke Rodi (28th, 2:33.29).
- Jacquelyn Fields finished sixth in the women's long jump with a jump of 16-10.75/5.15m (+0.2) and eighth in the women's triple jump with a best leap of 36-7.50/11.16m (+1.4).
- Sydney Tullai was just off her personal best with a time of 4:53.99 to finish 13th in the women's 1500m.Rodi had a time of 5:03.45 to finish 20th.
- In the men's 1500m, Sam Sloan was 34th with a time of 4:09.57, Josh Zavala was 35th with a time of 4:09.77 and Mitch Libby was 41st with a time of 4:17.86.
