De Grasse Earns 100m Bronze At IAAF World Athletics Championships

Brown 8th in 100m; Gaither & Benjamin advance in events
Andre De Grasse earned a bronze medal and Aaron Brown finished eighth in the men's 100m, Tynia Gaither advanced to the women's 100m semifinal and Rai Benjamin advanced to the men's 400m hurdles final at the 2019 IAAF World Athletics Championships in Doha, Qatar today (Sept. 28).Â
De Grasse came on strong in the second half of the men's 100m final to run a wind-legal PR of 9.90 (+0.6) to finish third and earn a bronze medal in the event.  Brown finished eighth in the final with a time of 10.08 (+0.6). De Grasse and Brown became the first pair of Canadians to reach the World Championships' 100m final since Bruny Surin and Donovan Bailey were in the 1995 100m final. De Grasse had a time of 10.07 (-0.1) and Brown a time of 10.12 (-0.3) in the semifinals earlier in the day.
Gaither, running for The Bahamas, placed fourth in the fourth heat of the women's 100m dash with a time of 11.24 (-0.1) to advance 16th on time to tomorrow's semifinal.
Benjamin won his 400m hurdles semifinal heat with a time of 48.52 to automatically advance to Sunday's final. Benjamin's time was fifth among the qualifiers.
