Freshman Yuxin Lin fires 66, Junior transfer Leon D'Souza a 67.
Freshman Yuxin Lin fired a 4-under 66 while junior transfer Leon D'Souza carded a 3-under 67, the newcomers making their Trojan debut by leading No. 11 USC in the season-opening first round of the Maui Jim Intercollegiate on Friday (Sept. 13) at the Mirabel G.C. in Scottsdale, Ariz.
The Trojans are a combined 8-under 272, in seventh, 10 back of Arizona State.
Lin, from Beijing, kicked off his Trojan career in impressive fashion with his 66, good for a tie for 10th after 18 holes and three back of a tie for first.
Starting on the 10th hole today, he opened with seven pars before eagling the par 5 17th hole and following with a birdie on 18 to turn at -3. He was 1-under on the second nine with two birdies.
D'Souza is tied for 15th. The transfer from South Mountain C.C. who is originally from Hong Kong, turned at par with two birdies. He opened the second nine with a birdie on 10 and a bogey on 2, but closed with birdies on 4, 5 and 7.
Sophomore Charlie Reiter was USC's top returning player today with a 1-under 69, tied for 30th. He had five birdies.
Junior Issei Tanabe is tied for 42nd at par, a triple bogey on 18 spoiling an other wise strong round. Senior Kyle Suppa is tied for 49th at 1-over 71.
