Audrey and Nicole Nourse Named AVCA High School Beach All-Americans

The Beach Volleyball Twins are the program’s sixth and seventh High School All-Americans
LOS ANGELES – USC beach volleyball freshmen Audrey and Nicole Nourse (Newport Beach, Calif./Orange Lutheran HS/Elite Beach VB) were named to the 2019 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) High School Beach All-America first team on Wednesday, Sept. 4. The twin sisters are USC's sixth and seventh all-time HS All-Americans and make up two of the 16 elite athletes chosen for the prestigious honor.
2019 marked the sixth time the AVCA named High School Beach Volleyball All-Americans and was only the second time that they have named two teams with eight players in each group. In 2017, the team was made up of six players and included 10 honorable mention choices. When the award was first started in 2014, the team was made up of only four players.
The Nourses are two of eight 2019 All-Americans to hail from the state of California. The duo joined the Women of Troy in late May for the team's European tour through Italy, Slovenia, and Croatia and have been active on the AVP Tour. The twins played in the Huntington Beach Open, in New York, Seattle, Manhattan Beach, and in the Hermosa Open where they reached a career-best 15th-place finish. The Nourses also traveled the world as part of the FIVB World Tour and had three fifth-place finishes this summer (India, Malaysia, Brazil).
The High School Girls Beach All-America Committee is comprised of Jeff Smith (chairperson; 692 Beach – West Coast), Wayne Gant (Great American Volleyball – East Coast), Steve Bishop (USA Volleyball Florida Region – East Coast), Scott Stover (692 Beach – Central), Andrew Bennett (Tamarack Beach Volleyball Club – West Coast), Ryan Mariano (RPM Sand – West Coast), Bryan Jones (Southern Sand Select – Southeast), Marlee Rice (AAU – West Coast), Colleen Craig (Rally Volleyball – West Coast).
Last year, former Trojan Laurel Kujan was chosen to the All-America second team. In 2017, juniors Haley Hallgren and Sammy Slater were named to the six-person All-America squad. In 2016, senior Joy Dennis received honorable mention status. Two-time AVCA All-American Abril Bustamante was a High School All-American in 2015. Jo Kremer was part of the inaugural HS Beach All-America Team in 2014 but committed to play indoor volleyball at Notre Dame before she later transferred to USC to play on the sand.
The Women of Troy begin a new era in 2019-20 under first-year head coach Dain Blanton. The Olympic gold-medalist took the reins in late July following the retirement of eight-year head coach Anna Collier. Blanton and assistant coach Gustavo Rocha will lead the Trojans into the program's ninth season in a quest for a fourth Pac-12 title and fourth national championship.
A three-time national champion, USC finished as the NCAA runner-up in 2019 with a 32-6 overall record. The Trojans eclipsed the 30-win total for the third time and claimed the program's third Pac-12 Championship with a dramatic 3-2 win over crosstown rival UCLA. Collier was chosen as the AVCA National Coach of the Year and the Pac-12 Coach of the Year and became the first and only coach to cross the 200-career victory plateau. Bustamante and Tina Graudina were named the Pac-12 Pair of the Year with Graudina the Player of the Year. The duo was chosen for AVCA All-America honors alongside Terese Cannon and Slater. The beach volleyball team also held the distinction of having the highest term and cumulative grade-point average among all 21 of USC's varsity sports.
