Over the past week, the NFL unveiled its list of the Top 100 Players of 2019, and four high-performing Trojans made the the cut.
The highest-ranked Trojan on the list was JuJu Smith-Schuster, who debuted at No. 47. After a leading all rookies in receiving yards in 2017, Smith-Schuster had an even more impressive sophomore season. In 2018, he led the Steelers with 111 catches for 1,426 yards and caught 7 touchdowns. He became the youngest player in NFL history to eclipse 1,500 career receiving yards and became the youngest player in Steelers history to have a 1,000-yard season. He was named to his first Pro Bowl thanks to his record-setting efforts.
While Smith-Schuster made his first of what's sure to be many appearances on the NFL Top 100, USC alum Tyron Smith made the list for the sixth straight year. Smith, who's heading into his ninth season with the Dallas Cowboys, came in at No. 52 on this year's Top 100. He has consistently proven to be one of the top left tackles in the league, with six straight Pro Bowl selections to show for it.
Robert Woods became the second Trojan receiver to make his debut on the NFL Top 100, coming in at No. 76. Woods had the best season of his career in 2018, leading the Los Angeles Rams with 86 catches for 1,219 yards and 6 touchdowns. He earned the nickname "Mr. Consistent" after becoming just the fourth receiver in NFL history to post 14 consecutive games with at least 60 receiving yards. He and the Rams made it all the way to the Super Bowl, during which Woods racked up 70 receiving yards and 5 rush yards.
The final Trojan on the Top 100 is Titans DT Jurrell Casey, who was ranked No. 92 by his peers. Casey has now made the Top 100 four times, with four Pro Bowl selections to match. In 2018, the eight-year veteran posted 62 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, 11 QB hits and 7.0 sacks. He was nominated to the Pro Bowl for the fourth straight season.
The 2019 NFL preseason kicks off tonight, when the Denver Broncos (whose roster features two Trojans, Su'a Cravens and Nico Falah), play the Atlanta Falcons. The NFL regular season begins on September 5.
