USC's Chuma Edoga Picked By Jets In Third Round Of NFL Draft
April 26, 2019 | Football, Features
USC offensive tackle Chuma Edoga was selected by the New York Jets in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft, as the 92nd pick.
Edoga is USC's 506th all-time NFL draftee, the most of any school. He is the third Trojan chosen by the Jets in the past 5 years, joining defensive tackle Leonard Williams (2015) and quarterback Sam Darnold (2018). He also is just the second USC offensive tackle taken in the past 7 years, along with Zach Banner in 2017.
Edoga started for 2 years (2017-18) at right tackle for USC. He appeared in 44 career games, with 26 starts. As a senior in 2018, he made All-Pac-12 second team and played in the Senior Bowl.
USC and Michigan are the only schools with an NFL draftee every year since 1939. USC is tied with Ohio State for most NFL first round picks (81) and tied with Notre Dame for most No. 1 picks (5). USC and Oklahoma are the only schools with the draft's top selections in consecutive years.
This year was the first since 2002 that USC did not have a first or second round draftee. Edoga is USC's lowest first pick since Markus Steele was the 122nd pick of the 2001 Draft, going in the fourth round.
