Annelus, Jewett & Samuel win individual events
Angie Annelus won the women's 200m, Isaiah Jewett the men's 800m, Cameron Samuel the men's 400m hurdles and the women's 4x100m and men's 4x400m relays both won with season-best times during the final day of competition at the Mt. SAC Relays held at El Camino College in Torrance, Calif. today (April 20). A host of USC professional athletes also had an outstanding meet, led by Michael Norman and Rai Benjamin in the 400m, going 1-2 with the two fastest times in the world this season. Also today, Matthew Katnik placed ninth in the shot put and Karlee Freeman 20th in the discus throw at the Beach Invitational in Long Beach, Calif.
- USC began the day with a bang as the women's 4x100m relay team of Dior Hall, Angie Annelus, Lanae-Tava Thomas and TeeTee Terry ran 42.93 to win the Invitational race. That time improved their NCAA-leading mark, ranks third on USC's all-time list and currently ranks second in the world by 0.01 seconds.
- The men's 4x100m relay team of Daniel Robinson, Brendon Stewart, Earvin da Silva and Eric Allen Jr. posted a season-best time of 39.88 to place fifth in the Invitational race.
- Next was the women's Invitational 100m hurdles and it was eventful for the Trojans. Mecca McGlaston had a season-best time of 13.07 (+1.1) to finish third in her heat and seventh overall. In the second section, Chanel Brissett tumbled over a mid-race hurdle and got back up to finish with a time of 29.02, good for 12th overall. Dior Hall originally had a time of 13.32 (+0.3), but due to issues with the start to the race the runners were allowed to run again. Hall then posted a season-best time of 12.96 (+1.1) to finish fifth overall.
- Omotade Ojora ran in the men's Invitational 110m hurdles and placed fifth in his section and ninth overall with a time of 13.96 (-0.9).
- Jemima Russell had a time of 2:06.79 to place 13th and Alyssa Brewer a time of 2:07.90 to finish 15th overall in the women's Invitational 800m races.
- Isaiah Jewett won the men's Invitational 800m race with a PR of 1:46.11. His time moves him to third on USC's all-time list, ranks second among collegiate runners this season and is currently the eighth-fastest time in the world.
- TeeTee Terry had a time of 11.21 (-0.9) to take second and Lanae-Tava Thomas a PR of 11.27 (-0.1) to finish second and third respectively in the women's Invitational 100m dash.
- Eric Allen Jr. was second in his section and finished eighth overall in the men's Invitational 100m dash with a time of 10.43 (+1.5).
- Kyra Constantine had a time of 52.54 to take fifth in her section and sixth overall in the women's Invitational 400m dash. Bailey Lear had a time of 53.43 to take fifth in her section and finish 14th overall in the women's 400m dash.
- Cameron Samuel won the men's Invitational 400m hurdles with a PR of 49.79. That time ties him for 10th on USC's all-time list, is the NCAA leader and currently ranks ninth in the world entering this weekend, tops among American runners.
- Angie Annelus won the women's Invitational 200m dash with a season-opening time of 22.81 (-0.5). Her time ties her for second among NCAA women entering this weekend's action.
- Earnest Sears III placed fourth in the men's Invitational high jump with a season-best clearance of 7-4.25 (2.24m).
- The women's 4x400m relay team of Lear, Anna Cockrell, Russell and Constantine had a season-best time of 3:35.34 to place fourth in the women's Invitational race.
- The men's 4x400m relay team of Samuel, Allen Jr., Jewett and Shinnick closed out the meet for the Trojans in style by winning the Invitational relay with a season-best time of 3:03.54. That time puts them sixth on the NCAA descending order list entering this weekend's action.
- Among the USC track and field alumni competing in individual events: Rai Benjamin (2nd – 400m, PR of 44.31, 2nd in the world), Kendall Ellis (2nd – 400m, 51.75), Ricky Morgan (9th – 400m, 46.28), Dalilah Muhammad (1st – 400m, 51.62), Michael Norman (1st – 400m, PR of 43.45, 1st in the world, second-fastest time ever on American soil), Just'N Thymes (10th – 100m, 10.46, 6th – 200m, 20.81).
- Matthew Katnik placed ninth in the men's shot put with a best mark of 63-3.50 (19.29m) in his final attempt.
- Karlee Freeman placed 20th in the women's discus throw with a best mark of 168-10 (51.47m).
