On Sunday, the 2018 NFL season came to an end as the New England Patriots and the Los Angeles Rams faced off in Super Bowl LIII.
The three Trojans on LA's roster — WR Robert Woods, CB Nickell Robey-Coleman and RB Justin Davis — were all vying for their first Super Bowl title. But the Rams came up short against the powerhouse Patriots, who hoisted their sixth Lombardi Trophy after a 13-3 victory.
While Davis was inactive for the Rams, Woods and Robey-Coleman made their presence felt throughout the game.
Woods hauled in 5 catches for 70 yards and had 1 carry for 5 yards in the biggest game of his career. It was his 13th 70-yard game of the season — more than any other NFL player in 2018 could claim. His consistent production this season earned him the nickname "Mr. Reliable" within the Rams organization. Including the playoffs, Woods finished the year with 1,391 yards (10th in the NFL) and 6 touchdowns — both career-highs.
Robey-Coleman came out strong in his first career Super Bowl appearance. On the opening drive of the game, he had a tackle and a broken up pass that allowed his teammate to intercept Patriots QB Tom Brady. Robey-Coleman finished with 2 tackles and 1 pass defended.
Though these three Trojans weren't able to claim their first Super Bowl title, they expanded upon USC's impressive history in the Super Bowl. A Trojan has now appeared in 47 of 53 Super Bowls and 114 Trojans have appeared overall.
