Hall, Jewett & Smith Gilbert Earn MPSF Honors

Dior Hall was named the 2019 Women's Athlete of the Meet, Isaiah Jewett was named 2019 Men's Athlete of the Meet and Caryl Smith Gilbert was named 2019 Women's Coach of the Year by the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) today (Feb. 27). Â
The redshirt senior Hall won the women's 200m dash with a personal best and placed second in the 60m hurdles at the MPSF Championships on Feb. 22-23, scoring 18 points individually and helping lead the Trojan women to the team title. Hall won the 200m dash on Feb. 22 with a PR of 23.83, winning the first heat and then waiting through 18 heats and the results of the other 56 runners to be crowned champion. The next day, Hall placed second in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.09, behind teammate Chanel Brissett. Hall also ran a season-best and eighth-best nationally 8.07 in the prelims. Hall is the third Trojan to earn MPSF Women's Athlete of the Meet honors in the six years of participation, joining Amalie Iuel (2016) and Jessica Davis (2014).
The junior Jewett won the men's 800m dash at the MPSF Championships by nearly two seconds with a time of 1:47.20 to earn 10 points in the team competition. He also anchored USC's 4x400m relay which won with a Dempsey Indoor track record-time of 3:06.40, earning USC 10 more team points. For the third consecutive season, the only men's MPSF record which was broken was done by USC. Jewett is the third-straight Trojan Men's MPSF Athlete of the Meet, joining Rai Benjamin (2018) and Randall Cunningham (2017).
Smith Gilbert, in her sixth season at USC's Director of Track & Field, led the USC women to its fifth MPSF title in the last six seasons, winning by 52.5 points over second-place Stanford. USC's women won five individual titles and the 4x400m relay en route to the team title. Smith Gilbert won her seventh MPSF Coach of the Year honor, fifth Women's Coach of the Year award.
