USC Wins 2 Individual Titles & Advances 10 To Finals At MPSF Championships

Hall wins the 200m & Thomas the long jump
Dior Hall won the women's 200m dash, Lanae-Tava Thomas and Margaux Jones finished first and second respectively in the women's long jump and 10 Trojans advanced to event finals tomorrow during the first day of action at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Indoor Track & Field Championships at Dempsey Indoor in Seattle, Wash. today (Feb. 22). After the first day of the MPSF Championships, USC's women are in first place with 31 points, two ahead of Colorado, and the men's team has nine points and are currently in 10th place.
- Redshirt senior Dior Hall won the women's 200m title with a PR of 23.83 to earn USC 10 points in the team competition. Hall won the first heat and had to wait 18 more heats before she could claim the title.
- Freshman Lanae-Tava Thomas won the women's long jump title with a best leap of 20-5.00/6.22m. It was her first long jump competition for USC and moved her into seventh on USC's all-time indoor list. Margaux Jones finished second with a best jump of 20-3.00/6.17m. Together they earned the Trojan women 18 points in the team competition.
- Senior Lyndsey Lopes placed sixth in the Pentathlon, scoring a season-best 3,720 points. She was second in the 60m hurdles with a season-best time of 8.60 (995 points), tied for third in the high jump at 5-5.75/1.67m (818 points), was 13th in the shot put at 32-10.50/10.02m (531 points), seventh in the long jump with a season-best of 17-9.75/5.43m (680 points) and ninth in the 800m race with a time of 2:29.8 (696 points). She finished 13 points out of fifth and 31 out of fourth. Lopes earned USC's women three points in the team competition.
- Redshirt junior Nathan Bultman placed fourth in the men's weight throw with a best mark of 64-10.50/19.77 in his second attempt. He earned USC five points in the team competition.
- The men's distance medley team of freshman Sam VanDorpe, sophomore Cameron Samuels, junior Mathew Myrtue and junior Nicolaus Jakowec placed fifth with a time of 9:48.60. They earned USC four points in the team competition.
- Sophomore Joy McArthur took 10th in the women's weight throw with a best mark of 56-10.75/17.34m.
- Also finishing 10th today was sophomore Earvin da Silva in the men's 200m dash with a time of 21.59.
- Freshman Ayden Owens took 14th in the men's long jump with a best leap of 22-3.50/6.79m.
- All four of USC's women's 60m hurdlers won their preliminary heat and advanced to tomorrow's final. Sophomore Chanel Brissett was 1st overall at 8.03, Hall was 2nd overall with a season-best of 8.07, junior Anna Cockrell was third overall with a time of 8.21 and junior Mecca McGlaston was fifth overall with a time of 8.33.
- Owens also ran 7.98 to take second in his 60m hurdles prelim and advanced 7th overall to the final tomorrow.
- Again all four Trojan women who ran in a 60m dash preliminary round heat won and advanced to tomorrow's final. Sophomore TeeTee Terry and Thomas tied for first overall with a time of 7.35, junior Angie Annelus was fifth overall with a season-best time of 7.41 and Brissett was sixth overall with a PR of 7.42. There were 55 sprinters overall vying for the top 8 spots.
- Freshman Brendon Stewart won his preliminary heat and finished third overall in the men's 60m dash with a time of 6.66 to automatically advance to Saturday's final. da Silva had a time of 6.83 to place second in his heat and finish 11th overall.
