Annelus Takes 4th & Gaither 8th In W-200m Final At The IAAF World Championships

Angie Annelus placed fourth and Tynia Gaither eighth in the women's 200m final and Dalilah Muhammad advanced to the women's 400m hurdles final at the 2019 IAAF World Athletics Championships in Doha, Qatar today (Oct. 2). Also, Michael Norman was slowed by a leg issue and did not advance to the men's 400m final.
Annelus had a time of 22.59 (+0.9) to finish fourth in the women's 200m final. She had a strong close to the race, but finished .08 seconds out of a medal position. Tynia Gaither posted a time of 22.90 to finish eighth in the final.
Muhammad won her women's 400m hurdles semifinal with a time of 53.91 to automatically advance to the final on Oct. 4. She was second among the qualifiers. Amalie Iuel, who set the Norwegian national record with a time of 54.72 yesterday, had a time of 55.03 to finish fourth in her semifinal and 10th overall. She would have had to PR again to reach the final, as the last qualifier had a time of 54.52.
Norman, who has been having leg issues since before the USA Championships, finished seventh in his men's 400m semifinal and 22nd overall with a time of 45.94. ""My body gave me warning signs today and I listened to them," said Norman. "I made the executive choice to slow down instead of risking injury."
The Trojans will have no athletes competing tomorrow, the first day of the competition in which USC did not have an athlete in action.
