Former USC Men's and Women's Volleyball Stars Win Gold at World Beach Games

A quartet of former USC men's and women's volleyball greats brought home gold medals for the United States in the 4x4 beach volleyball competition today (Oct. 16) at the ANOC World Beach Games in Doha, Qatar.
Ex-Women of Troy Geena Urango and Allie Wheeler teamed with Karissa Cook, Emily Hartong, Kelly Reeves and Katie Spieler to beat Brazil 21-16, 21-9. The U.S. women lost to Brazil 21-13, 21-12 in pool play, then came back to beat Vanuatu in the quarterfinals and Canada in the semis.
In the men's gold medal match, Trojan brother alums Riley and Maddison McKibbin joined with Brian Cook, Taylor Crabb, Troy Field and Olympian Casey Patterson to beat the host country Qatar before a packed house, 21-18, 26-24. The U.S. Men lost to Qatar in pool play, 16-21, 21-10, 15-10, then came back to beat Mozambique in the quarterfinals and Indonesia in the semis.
In the final, the U.S. women started Urango with Kelly Cook, Hartong, Reeves and Urango. Urango had eight kills, Cook scored on five kills and five blocks, Hartong had six kills and four blocks and Reeves had two kills.
The U.S. men started both McKibbins, Brian Cook and Crabb in the final. Maddison McKibbin finished with five kills and four blocks, Cook had nine kills and six blocks and Crabb had 11 kills and one block.
