Chase McGrath Named Pac-12 Special Teams Player Of The Week
September 04, 2018 | Football, Features
USC sophomore placekicker Chase McGrath was named the Pac-12 Special Teams Player of the Week for his record-tying 5 field goal performance in the Trojans' season-opening victory over UNLV.
McGrath tied the USC record for most field goals in a game, equalling a 14-year-old school record first set in 2004 by Ryan Killen, who had 5 field goals versus UCLA.
McGrath's three-pointers were 46, 38, 29, 47 and 36 yards, with no misses. He also hit all three of his PATs. He scored USC's first 12 points of the game. His last PAT, following a touchdown with 1:38 to play, was snapped by blind long snapper Jake Olson.
McGrath, who came to USC as a walk-on but was awarded a scholarship after the 2017 season, now has 17 career field goals. He was 12-of-17 last season, including the first 2 of his career coming on a 31-yarder with no time remaining to send the Texas game into overtime and then the game winner from 43 yards in the second overtime.
