Jay Tufele Named Pac-12 Special Teams Player Of The Week
September 24, 2018 | Football, Features
USC redshirt freshman defensive lineman Jay Tufele was named the Pac-12 Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance in the Trojans' 39-36 win over Washington State.
As the Cougars drove into field goal range with only 1:50 to play and trailing by 3 points, Tufele burst through a hole and got a hand on WSU placekicker Blake Mazza's 38-yard attempt that would have tied the game. Tufele also had 3 tackles while starting on the defensive line.
Tufele is the second Trojan to win Pac-12 Special Teams Player of the Week honors in 2018, after placekicker Chase McGrath was honored following his 5 field goal performance in the UNLV opener.
