The Trojans cut practice short to enjoy a little team bonding in the pool.
Before heading to the high dive, USC focused its practice on the two-minute drill.
- Here is the injury report, per head coach Clay Helton: OT Clayton Bradley and OT Austin Jackson (held out), CB Chase Williams (returned), TE Erik Krommenhoek (light work), DL Liam Jimmons (turf toe), and DB Ykili Ross (expected back next week).
- Senior LB Cameron Smith continues to work his way back into practice, participating in 7-on-7 for the first time today since his hamstring injury. "He's feeling good," Helton said, but he won't participate in Saturday's scrimmage. Smith has played so much football as a four-year starter that Helton is not worried about a couple missed weeks of practice.
- The defense dominated the team period with three interceptions, two off QB Jack Sears and one off QB JT Daniels. "I thought there was some decision-making in a two-minute situation that obviously they want to have those throws back," Helton said about the quarterback mistakes. "We'll do it again on Saturday."
- The USC defense gave up too many explosive plays last season, but Helton explained that the "secondary has been bolstered" by "depth" and "experience", so the Trojans won't be as susceptible to mistakes in the back end and they will have fresh legs in the second half.
- The Trojans went straight from the practice field to the pool. "We cooled off," Helton said. "We allowed the kids to have a little fun and swim in the pool."
- Helton walked the willing seniors to the top of the high dive and provided the first splash. Fearless long snapper Jake Olson followed closely behind.
