Fan Experience Updates For 2018 USC Football Games In Coliseum
August 15, 2018 | Football, Trojan Athletic Fund, Features
Fans attending USC football home games in 2018 will experience a Coliseum in the midst of an announced $270-million renovation, requiring some adjustments this season to transit, parking, tailgating and stadium access.
"The renovation of the Coliseum is moving along on time and on budget, and we thank the contractors and construction workers who are making this happen," said USC athletic director Lynn Swann. "When the work is complete prior to the 2019 season, the game day experience for our fans will be second to none. We are working diligently to minimize any effect that the construction will have on that fan experience this season."
Details of what fans can expect in 2018 are below. For information about the Coliseum renovation, go to coliseumrenovation.com. Complete information and maps on the 2018 USC football game day experience will be available starting the last week of August at USCTrojans.com/gameday.
In 2015, after taking control of the management of the Coliseum, USC announced plans to renovate and restore the stadium, including building a new structure on the stadium's south side (with suites, loge boxes, club seats, a new concourse and new press box). Work began on the structure after the 2017 football season and will be completed for the 2019 home opener.
New seats with increased legroom have been added on the south side of the stadium in 2018, along with handrails on south side aisles.
When the renovation is completed in 2019, every seat in the stadium will be replaced, aisles and handrails will be added, Wi-Fi will be installed and south ground level concession stands will be added.
New field and stadium lighting was installed for the 2016 season. New videoboards and scoreboards throughout the stadium were in place for the 2017 season, replacing the boards that sat atop the peristyle and thereby restoring the iconic peristyle to more closely resemble the stadium's original design.
The renovation, privately funded by USC, will preserve the Coliseum's historic nature. Improvements will reduce seating capacity to approximately 77,500 in 2019 (it is at 78,467 in 2018 during the renovation). USC has been a tenant in the Coliseum since the historic stadium opened in 1923.
