NFL Media analyst Gil Brandt released his rankings of the Top 22 NFL offensive tackles of all time, and five of the top 20 men on the list have something in common — they played their college ball at USC.
The five Trojans on the list are Anthony Munoz (No. 3), Ron Yary (No. 5), Tony Boselli (No. 16), Ron Mix (No. 18) and Tyron Smith (No. 19).
Munoz (pictured right) played at USC from 1976-79 before being drafted third overall in the 1980 NFL Draft. During his 13-year career with the Cincinnati Bengals, he made 11 Pro Bowls and was named a First Team All-Pro nine times. He was enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1998.
Yary starred at USC from 1965-67, winning the Outland Trophy in his final season. In 1968, he became the first Trojan to go No. 1 overall in the NFL Draft and the first offensive lineman to ever go first overall. In his 15-year NFL career with the Minnesota Vikings and Los Angeles Rams, he was voted to seven Pro Bowls and made First Team All-Pro six times. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2001.
Boselli earned All-American honors twice while at USC from 1991-94. In 1995, he became the Jacksonville Jaguars' first-ever NFL Draft pick, going No. 2 overall. In seven seasons with the Jaguars, he made the Pro Bowl five times and First Team All-Pro three times.
Mix prepped at USC from 1957-59. In 1960, he was drafted by both the AFL and the NFL. During this career with the Los Angeles/San Diego Chargers and the Oakland Raiders, he made eight AFL all-star games and made First Team All-AFL eight times. Mix also appeared in five AFL title games. He entered the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1979.
Heading into his eighth NFL season with the Dallas Cowboys, Smith (pictured below) is regarded one of the best offensive tackles in the game. He made five straight Pro Bowls from 2013-17 and has earned two First Team All-Pro and two Second Team All-Pro selections.
USC's five players in the Top 22 are more than any other school can claim; Ohio State is next with three representatives.
USC's unmatched NFL tradition will continue when the 2018 season begins on September 6.
