USC Two Back At Silverado Showdown In Hunt For Third Straight Win

Freshman Jennifer Chang tied for first at 6-under 138.
Freshman Gabi Ruffels fired a 2-under 70 while freshman Jennifer Chang's 72 kept her in a tie for first, the duo helping No. 5 USC stay within two strokes of first after the second round of the Silverado Showdown at the Silverado Resort and Spa in Napa, Calif., on Monday (April 9).
USC is second at 1-over 577 (290-287), two back of Stanford, which took the lead after a round best 7-under 281. USC and Texas, tied for third with UCLA at 6-over, posted the second-best rounds of the day at 1-under.
The Trojans, featuring a four-freshman, one-sophomore starting lineup, are seeking their third win in a row and fifth on the season in the regular-season finale.
Chang, meanwhile, is after her third top 3 of the spring semester, sharing the lead at 6-under 138 (66-72) after a four-birdie second round. She and Stanford's Mika Liu are one ahead of Cal's Jiyoon Jang while six other players are within four strokes.
Ruffels (77-70), who had five birdies in the round, and freshman Amelia Garvey (75-72) are tied for 20th at 3-over 147.
Freshman Alyaa Abdulghany is tied for 24th at 4-over 148 (72-76), sophomore Allisen Corpuz is tied for 44th at 7-over 151 (78-73) and sophomore Aiko Leong, playing individually, is tied for 76th at 19-over 163 (84-79).
USC, Stanford and UCLA will be paired together for the final round, starting at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start. Chang and Liu will be in the same pairing off the first tee along with UCLA's Patty Tavatanakit, in fourth.
