USC Wins Seven Events During Final Day Of Sun Angel Classic

Lopes PRs to place third at Sam Adams Combined Events
USC won seven events, highlighted by meet and venue records in the 200m by Michael Norman and the 100m hurdles by Anna Cockrell to lead the Trojans during the final day of the Sun Angel Classic held in Tempe, Ariz. today (April 7).  In addition, Lyndsey Lopes placed third in heptathlon with a personal-best score at the Sam Adams Combined Events hosted by Westmont College in Santa Barbara, Calif. Â
At The Sam Adams Combined Events:
Lopes placed third in the heptathlon at the Sam Adams Combined Events, first among collegians, with a personal best of 5,574 points. She improved 203 points over her previous best heptathlon and moved from eighth to fifth on USC's all-time list in the event. Lopes opened the day by going 17-9.75/5.43m (+0.4) in the long jump to place seventh in the event. She earned 680 points in the event. She then took fourth in the javelin throw with a season-best mark of 118-5 (36.09m). She earned 592 points in the event and remained in third place overall. Lopes closed out the meet with a PR of 2:18.67 in the 800m race to finish third and earn 842 points.

- USC's women's 4x100m relay team of Angie Annelus, Kendall Ellis, Deanna Hill and TeeTee Terry got the Premiere portion of the meet off to a blazing start by winning with a time of 43.11. That time won by over a second and is the fifth-fastest time ever for a women's 4x100m relay team in school history.
- USC took first-third and fifth in the women's 100m Premiere race, the top four collegian times, as Terry won with a wind-legal PR of 11.20 (+0.1), Hill was second at 11.28 (+0.1), Annelus was third with a PR of 11.40 (+0.1) and Chanel Brissett was fifth with a wind-legal PR of 11.66 (+0.6). Terry moved into 10th place on USC's all-time 100m dash list. Her time is the fastest wind-legal 100m dash by a college runner entering action this weekend.
- USC's women did even better in the 200m Premiere race as Hill won her first 200m race of the season with time of 22.78 (-0.6), Ellis was second with a season-best time of 22.91 (-0.6), Annelus was third with a PR of 22.92 (-0.6), Terry was fourth with a PR of 23.01 (-0.6) and Dior Hall was sixth with a time of 23.70 (-0.6).
- Norman won the men's Premiere 200m race with a PR, meet and venue record-time of 20.06 (-1.4). He moved from eighth to fourth on USC's all-time list. His time is the fastest by a collegian this season, entering action this week. Barnum finished fourth in the Premiere 200m with a time of 21.05 (+0.1) and Brock placed 11th with a time of 21.47 (+0.1).
- Cockrell won the women's 100m hurdles by tying her PR and setting the meet and venue record with a time of 12.89 (-0.9). Dior Hall was second with a season-best time of 13.02 (-0.9), Chanel Brissett was fourth at 13.22 (-0.9) and Mecca McGlaston was ninth at 13.58 (-1.2).
- Cockrell then came back to win the women's 400m hurdles with a time of 58.30 in her season debut in the event. Shante Robinson took seventh in the 400m hurdles with a time of 60.21.
- Courtney Corrin won the women's long jump with a best leap of 20-3.50/6.18m (+0.0), hitting that mark in her second. Madisen Richards placed second in the women's long jump with a best leap of 20-0.25/6.10m (+1.2). Corrin and Richards were the only two jumpers in the competition to go at least 20 feet.
- Robert Ford had a PR of 1:46.64 to place second in the men's Premiere 800m race. Ford moved to sixth on USC's all-time 800m list.
- Earnest Sears III placed second in the men's high jump with a personal-best clearance of 7-1.75 (2.18m), which moved him from tied for 10th to tied for seventh on USC's all-time list in the high jump. He made the last two heights on his final attempt, but could not clear 7-3.00 (2.21m).
- Nick Ponzio placed second in the men's shot put Premiere competition with a best mark of 60-11.50 (18.58m). He fouled in his first three attempts, but then had throws of 59-0.25 in the fourth round and 60-4 in the fifth round which both momentarily gave him the lead.
- Breana Jemison finished third in the women's shot put Premiere competition with a best mark of 54-8.25 (16.67m).
- Kyra Constantine finished third with a time of 52.73 (.723) and Kaelin Roberts fourth at 52.73 (52.726) in the women's Premiere 400m race.
- Dominic Smallwood placed fourth in the men's long jump with a best jump of 24-1.75/7.36m (+0.3). He elected to pass on his final three attempts.
- Cameron Samuel won his heat and placed fourth in the men's 400m hurdles with a PR of 52.00.
- Kayla Richardson placed fourth in the women's 400m dash with a time of 54.31 and Kennedy Gillian placed 11th with a college-best time of 55.51.
- Ricky Morgan Jr. was fifth with a season-best time of 45.99 in the men's Premiere 400m race.
- Barnum placed fifth with a time of 10.44 (-1.1) in the men's 100m Premiere race, while Brock placed seventh with a time of 10.48 (-1.1).
- Christian Sourapas placed fifth in the men's 100m dash with a time of 10.74 (-1.1). He then came back to place fourth in the men's 200m race with a time of 21.44 (-1.1).
- Cassidy Palka placed seventh in the women's high jump with a clearance of 5-7.00/1.70m.
- Matthew Myrtue placed ninth in the men's 800m race with a PR of 1:53.03.
- Gillian then came back to place 10th in the women's 200m with a time of 24.80 (-0.9).
- Ponzio also placed 10th in the men's discus throw with a mark of 157-0 (47.86m). He opened with two fouls, then landed his legal mark, 6 inches outside of qualifying for the finals and three more throws.
- Chloe Berry placed 10th with a time of 4:30.29 and Amber Gore placed 14th with a time of 4:36.75 in the women's 1500m Premiere race.
- Colette Putnam had a best mark of 96-0.00 (29.26m) to place 14th in the women's javelin throw.
