USC Sweeps Annual T&F Dual Meet At UCLA
April 29, 2018 | Track & Field, Features
The Trojans swept the annual USC-UCLA Dual Meet held at Drake Stadium on the campus of UCLA in Westwood, Calif. today (April 29), with the men winning 103-53 and the women winning 86-77. It was the first sweep of the Dual Meet for USC since 2015 and the first sweep at UCLA since 2010. The women's meet wasn't clinched until the final event, the 4x400m relay, and the men's team won the meet early, scoring its most points since registering 108 points in 1968.
"It was a great feeling to watch the seniors on the men's and women's teams win today," said USC Director of Track & Field Caryl Smith Gilbert. "The women's performance was outstanding because we had us down 88-72 and it was starting to look bleak and then Chloe Berry gets us five points out of nowhere and the team goes crazy, and Courtney Corrin triple jumps, a things she has never done, but that's the Dual Meet. This is what builds lives, learning how to overcome adversity, learning how to be resilient and learning how to perform under pressure. This is what will take them farther in life, the lessons they learn in times like this. I was extremely proud of everyone. I could call names over and over again, but there were so many great things that happened today that I don't want to leave anybody out. I look forward to going to Pac-12s and then NCAAs - getting done with finals and graduation so everyone can be rested - and then moving on."
