The Women of Troy advance to the winner’s bracket semifinal set for 11:30 a.m. PT on Friday, April 27
STANFORD, Calif. – The No. 2-seeded USC beach volleyball team (23-10) defeated seventh-seeded Arizona State (10-19) by a 4-1 count in the first round of the 2018 Pac-12 Beach Volleyball Championship at Stanford Sand Volleyball Stadium on Thursday, April 26.
The Women of Troy advance to the winner's bracket semifinal and will face either No. 3 California (21-6) or No. 6 Washington (12-11) at 11:30 a.m. PT on Friday, April 27.
In a staggered-start format, USC scored the first point from court four where senior Jenna Belton and freshman Maja Kaiser defeated Katie Cross and Cierra Flood, 21-18, 21-11. The second dual point came from the No. 5 position when freshman Haley Hallgren and senior Alexandra Poletto took down Kate Baldwin and Samantha Plaster, 21-16, 21-16.
The Trojans clinched the dual at court two as senior Terese Cannon and freshman Sammy Slater took down Natalie Braun and Frances Giedraitis, 21-12, 21-7, in dominant fashion. Moments later, the Women of Troy added a fourth point with a win at the top court where junior Abril Bustamante and freshman Tina Graudina took a 21-15, 21-13 win over Kwyn Johnson and Mia Rivera.
Arizona State scored its only point from court three on a 21-16, 21-19 win by Katelyn Carballo and Ellyson Lundberg. The Devils defeated USC's sophomore pair of Joy Dennis and Cammie Dorn.
