Jo Kremer Voted Pac-12 Beach Volleyball Scholar-Athlete of the Year

She is the second Trojan to receive the prestigious academic award
SAN FRANCISCO – USC senior Jo Kremer was named the 2018 Pac-12 Beach Volleyball Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the Conference office announced on Monday, April 23. She is the second consecutive Woman of Troy to receive the award after former teammate Nicolette Martin was chosen for the honor in 2017.

The award, which is presented in each of the 24 sports the Conference sponsors, was established to honor collegiate student-athletes that are standouts both academically and in their sports discipline.

A senior from Pacific Palisades Calif., Kremer is a communication major with a grade point average of 3.72 and has consistently boasted one of the highest GPAs on the squad during her career. Kremer is a three-year starter and helped lead USC to two Pac-12 titles, and three national titles including the first two NCAA championships (2016, 2017). Individually, she has won over 100 career matches, going 23-8 this season. Kremer is also a two-time Pac-12 All-Academic team honoree.

In order to be eligible for the Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, student-athletes must be seniors (in athletics eligibility) on track to receive a degree, have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher, participate in at least 50 percent of the scheduled contests in the sport, and have a minimum of one year in residence at the institution. Each Pac-12 institution may nominate one individual per sport, and the winners are selected by a committee of Pac-12 staff members at the conclusion of each sport's regular season. The athletic accomplishments of the nominees are a consideration in the voting for the award.

A Scholar-Athlete of the Year is named in each of the Pac-12's 24 sponsored sports: baseball, men's basketball, women's basketball, beach volleyball, men's cross country, women's cross country, football, men's golf, women's golf, women's gymnastics, women's lacrosse, men's rowing, women's rowing, men's soccer, women's soccer, softball, men's swimming & diving, women's swimming & diving, men's tennis, women's tennis, men's track & field, women's track & field, women's volleyball, and wrestling. The Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year Awards were first established during the 2007-08 academic year.

The fifth-ranked Trojans are 22-10 overall and head to Stanford, Calif., this weekend to defend their Pac-12 titles. First-round matches begin at the Stanford Sand Volleyball Courts on April 26 and will be shown live on the Pac-12 Networks' distribution channels.
