Cal's Olivia Hauger/Julia Rosenqvist defeated USC's No. 43 Angela Kulikov/Rianna Valdes on court one 6-1. Over on court three, Golden Bear pair Jasie Dunk/Maria Smith beat USC's Constance Branstine/Madison Westby 6-3 to claim the doubles point for Cal.
The Trojans entered the singles portion of the competition at a one-point deficit. California put another point on the board as No. 35 Anna Bright beat USC's Becca Weissmann 6-2, 6-0 on court two. Trojan Constance Branstine fell to Golden Bear Vivian Glozman 6-2, 6-3 on court six. California only needed one more point to claim the match.
On court four, California's Maria Smith whipped up another win for the Golden Bears by beating Trojan Madison Westby 7-6 (5), 6-3 to clinch the match for California.
Although the Golden Bears had already won, the remaining matches were played out. No. 32 Olivia Hauger defeated USC's Rianna Valdes 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 on court three. Trojan Angela Kulikov was locked in a tight battle on court five, but lost to Golden Bear Hana Mraz 6-1, 1-6, 7-6 (9).
California would have the final word of the day as No. 68 Julia Rosenqvist defeated No. 37 Gabby Smith 5-7, 6-3, 6-3 on court one.
The Women of Troy travel across the Bay to Palo Alto, Calif. to take on the Stanford Cardinal tomorrow (March 10). Because of the chance of rain, the match time has been moved up to 10 a.m. PT.
