Five Trojans Advance To Event Finals During First Day Of NCAA Indoor Championships

Michael Norman, Zach Shinnick and Kendall Ellis advanced to 400m finals, Anna Cockrell advanced to the women's 60m hurdles final and Rai Benjamin to the men's 200m dash final during the first day of action at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships at Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium in College Station, Texas today (March 9).
- Michael Norman won his men's 400m prelim heat and had the top time advancing to the finals of 45.56. Zach Shinnick was third in the same heat and advanced sixth overall with a time of 45.89. His time bettered his USC freshman record and moved him to second on USC's all-time list. Ricky Morgan Jr. had a time of 46.10 to take fourth in his heat and finish ninth overall, the first spot outside of advancing.
- Kendall Ellis won her women's 400m prelims heat with a time of 51.59 to advance to tomorrow's final in fourth. Kyra Constantine had a time of 53.33 to finish fourth in her heat and 14th overall.
- Anna Cockrell advanced to the women's 60m hurdles final tomorrow, by posting the third-fastest time of the day of 8.01. Chanel Brissett finished ninth at 8.12, .003 seconds out of advancing. Dior Hall had a time of 8.27 to finish 16th.
- Rai Benjamin took second in his men's 200m dash heat with a time of 20.56. He advanced to tomorrow's final with the fourth-fastest time.
- Deanna Hill had a time of 23.10 in the women's 200m dash to finish third in her prelims heat and ninth overall. She finished .002 seconds behind the eighth-place finisher.
- Breana Jemison began the day for the Trojans and placed ninth in the women's shot put with a best mark of 54-4.50/16.57m. That mark came in her third attempt to advance her to the finals in ninth, but she did not improve in the final three attempts.
- TeeTee Terry had a PR of 7.22 to finish ninth in the women's 60m dash prelims, with the top eight advancing to the final tomorrow. Her time moved her from tied for fourth to fourth-place all alone on USC's indoor list in the event. Ky Westbrook finished 14th with a time of 7.27.
- Alexander Barnum placed 12th in the men's 60m dash with a time of 6.68.
- Margaux Jones had a best long jump of 19-8.75/6.01m to finish 12th in the women's long jump.
- Nick Ponzio had fouls in all three men's shot put attempts.
