Over the weekend, the six Trojans at the NFL Combine showed their stuff to NFL personnel.
Running back Ronald Jones II was the first Trojan to take the field, but his on-field action was cut short by a hamstring injury. He pulled up during his first attempt at the 40-yard dash, finishing in 4.66 seconds after aggravating the hamstring. Jones didn't participate in any more on-field drills, but had official meetings with teams such as the New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles. Jones will re-run the 40 and participate in more drills at USC's Pro Day on March 21.
On Saturday, QB Sam Darnold and WRs Deontay Burnett and Steven Mitchell Jr. stepped into the spotlight.
Darnold ran a 4.85 40, which ranked ninth among the 17 QBs who participated. Darnold ranked fifth in the 3 Cone Drill with a time of 6.96 seconds. The 20-year-old did not throw at the Combine, but will throw at USC's Pro Day.
Mitchell ran a 4.56 40, did 13 reps on the bench press and posted a 32.5 inch vertical and a 121.0 broad jump. His 6.75 in the 3 Cone Drill ranked sixth among 26 participants.
Burnett caught passes at the Combine but didn't participate in measurable workouts.
Defensive lineman Rasheem Green and linebacker Uchenna Nwosu finished off USC's presence at the Combine on Sunday.
Green was particularly impressive in the 40, ranking fourth among all defensive linemen with a 4.73. His 118.0 broad jump ranked fifth in his position and his 32.5 vertical jump ranked in the Top 10.
Nwosu ran a 4.65 40, put up 20 reps on the bench, and posted a 32.0 inch vertical and a 119.0 broad jump.
These six prospects along with USC's other NFL hopefuls will be back on the field for USC's Pro Day on March 21. The event will be broadcast live on NFL Network.
