Norman set school indoor 400m record, 5th all-time by a collegian
Michael Norman won the men's 400m dash with a school-record time, Kendall Ellis won the women's 400m dash and TeeTee Terry won the women's 60m dash to key a strong first day for the Trojans at the Clemson Tiger Paw Invitational in Clemson, S.C. today (Feb. 9).
- Norman won the men's 400m dash, his first indoor 400m race as a Trojan, with a time of 45.00, which shattered the school record and ranks fifth all-time by a collegiate runner. It also set the Clemson Indoor Complex record. Only one collegian in the last seven years has run faster, Fred Kerley of Texas A&M who ran 44.85 in 2017. Ricky Morgan Jr. finished third overall with a PR of 46.15, which is the second-fastest time ever by a Trojan. Zach Shinnick took seventh with a time of 46.54.
- Ellis won the women's 400m with a time of 51.57, just .03 off the facility record. Shante Robinson placed 21st with a time of 55.46, Lyndsey Lopes was 26th (55.86), Kayla Richardson was 29th (56.09) and Kennedy Gillian 38th (56.96).
- Terry won the women's 60m dash with a PR of 7.23. That time moved her from tied for sixth to tied for fourth on USC's all-time list in the event. Ky Westbrook took second with a season-best time of 7.25 and Deanna Hill placed fourth with a season-best time of 7.30. In the prelims, Westbrook ran 7.30 (1st), Terry 7.32 (6th), Hill 7.33 (7th) and Angie Annelus 7.41 (14th). Annelus reached the prelims by taking fifth in the qualifier with a time of 7.45.
- Alexander Barnum had a busy day which culminated with him taking second in the 60m finals with a PR of 6.61, just .006 behind the winner. That time moved him into a fourth-place tie on USC's all-time list. Barnum had a PR in each race of the day, running 6.70 in the qualifier to move to seventh on USC's all-time list, then 6.68 in the prelims to finish fifth and better his seventh-place standing. T.J. Brock finished ninth in the prelims with a time of 6.70, as .005 separated the 7th-9th place finishers.
- Anna Cockrell had a PR of 7.96 and Chanel Brissett a PR of 8.09 to finish third and fifth in the women's 60m hurdles final. Cockrell bettered her third-place standing on USC's all-time list and Brissett bettered her sixth-place standing. Cockrell was second (8.02) and Brissett third (then PR of 8.11) in the prelims. Mecca McGlaston finished 10th in the prelims with a time of 8.21, which matched her PR set earlier in the day in the qualifier, which she won. She moved into an eighth-place tie on USC's all-time list. Shante Robinson was 18th (8.65) and Lyndsey Lopes 20th (PR of 8.68).
- Marquis Morris had a time of 8.05 to place 13th in the men's 60m hurdles.
- Breana Jemison placed second in the women's shot put with a best mark of 55-4.75/16.88m.
- Matthew Katnik took sixth in the men's shot put with a mark of 61-4/18.69m and Nick Ponzio finished eighth with a mark of 60-3/18.36m.
- Eric Sloan finished third in the men's long jump with a leap of 24-7.75/7.51m and Dominic Smallwood was eighth with a jump 23-10.75/7.28m.
- Courtney Corrin finished eighth, Margaux Jones ninth and Madisen Richards 10th in the women's long jump. Corrin had an indoor PR of 20-2.50/6.16m to move from 10th to ninth on USC's all-time list. Jones had a jump of 19-10.25/6.05m and Richards a PR of 19-9.50/6.03 to better her 10th-place standing on USC's all-time list.
- In the women's 1-mile race, Amber Gore had a PR of 4:58.34 to finish 10th, Chloe Berry was 11th at 5:00.43 and Kamryn Weber was 21st at 5:18.31. Gore moved from eighth to sixth on USC's all-time indoor mile list.
