Bustamante and Cannon Named Pac-12 Beach Volleyball Pair of the Week

SAN FRANCISCO – The USC beach volleyball pair of junior Abril Bustamante (Redondo Beach, Calif.) and Terese Cannon (Pittsford, N.Y.) was named Pac-12 Pair of the Week for the week of Feb. 19-25, as announced by the conference on Tuesday, February 27.

It is the first award of the 2018 season and marks the league-leading 12th time that a Trojan duo has received the conference's Pair of the Week title. Bustamante previously won the award in 2016 (Mar. 28) while partnered with current senior Jenna Belton at the No. 4 position. Cannon is also a repeat winner. She was chosen on March 28, 2017, with Nicolette Martin while at the No. 3 position.

Bustamante and Cannon went 4-0 at the top court on the opening weekend of the season and dropped just one set in those four matches to help the Trojans go 4-0 in duals. They defeated Katie Pyles and Molly Turner of Grand Canyon, 21-16, 21-16; Kwyn Johnson and Mia Rivera of Arizona State, 21-9, 21-15; Kelly Hunter and Lauren Stivrins of Nebraska, 21-12, 21-15; and Tiadora Miric and Torrey Van Winden of Cal Poly, 17-21, 21-19, 15-13.

The top-ranked Women of Troy have four early tests this week as No. 3 UCLA (3-1) and No. 5 Pepperdine (2-1) visit Merle Norman Stadium for duals on Wednesday (Feb. 28). Matches will be shown live on Pac-12 Network and Pac-12 Los Angeles beginning at 1 p.m. PT. USC then heads to Malibu, Calif., for the Zuma Classic hosted by Pepperdine and will face both the Bruins and the Waves again at Zuma Beach beginning at 9 a.m.
