No. 8 USC Men Knock Off No. 4 Georgia

Daniel Cukierman clinches another Trojan victory with a three-set comeback on court two.
SEATTLE, WASH. — The No. 8 USC men's tennis team chalked up a big upset to wrap its stint in Seattle, toppling No. 4 Georgia 4-2 during action at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships. The Trojans grabbed the doubles point, lost a match in singles and then rattled off three wins to close in on the victory that takes USC to 9-2 overall on the year.
USC tacked up the doubles point without surrendering any ground to the Bulldogs, posting a 6-1 win on court three from Daniel Cukierman and Tanner Smith before Brandon Holt and Riley Smith ousted Georgia's #8 Loeb/Zielinski 6-4 on court four. That suspended action on court two and sent the teams on to singles play with the Trojans holding a 1-0 advantage.
Georgia would strike first in singles on a 6-4, 6-4 decision delivered by #14 Walker Duncan over USC's Jake DeVine on court five. Up at the top spot, USC"s #11 Brandon Holt whipped up a 6-4, 6-3 win over #17 Wayne Montgomery, though, and USC was back on top, up 2-1. Soon after, Jack Jaede came through from court three, upsetting #45 Nathan Ponwith on a 6-2, 7-5 decision that had USC poised for victory with a 3-1 lead. The Bulldogs extended the matter when Robert Loeb pulled off a three-set comeback to beat Thibault Forget 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 on court six, but Trojan freshman Daniel Cukierman was manufacturing a comeback effort of his own on court two. Cukierman would knock off #31 Emil Reinberg with a 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 clincher to secure USC's 4-2 victory over No. 4 Georgia.
USC's next action comes up in two weeks with a crosstown rivalry clash against UCLA. The Trojans will visit the Bruins for a 2 p.m. matchup on Feb 27 in Westwood.
