Projans in the Pro Bowl
December 20, 2018 | Football, USC Ripsit Blog, Features
After impressive performances throughout the NFL season thus far, USC alumni Jurrell Casey, Tyron Smith and JuJu Smith-Schuster have earned spots in the 2019 NFL Pro Bowl.
Casey played defensive tackle USC from 2008-10 and earned All-Pac-10 honors in his final year. He was drafted in the third round of the 2011 NFL Draft by the Tennessee Titans, where he's spent all eight years of his career so far. This Pro Bowl nomination is the fourth in a row for Casey, making him the first player in the "Titans era" to earn four straight trips. Casey has 68 tackles, 7 sacks and 47.5 QB pressures on the season. A five-time captain and the team's Walter Payton Man of the Year nominee, Casey ranks sixth in franchise history with 46 career sacks.
Smith played alongside Casey at USC and was selected in the first round (9th overall) in the 2011 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys. He's proven to be one of the top offensive tackles in the NFL throughout his career, and has been rewarded with six straight Pro Bowl nominations. That ties him with Pro Football Hall of Famer Rayfield Wright for the most Pro Bowl selections by an offensive tackle in Cowboys history.
Smith-Schuster followed up his impressive rookie season with an even better second year with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The wide receiver posted 111 receptions this season (T-6th in the NFL) for 1,426 yards (5th in the NFL) and caught 7 touchdowns. Smith-Schuster set two records in 2018, becoming the youngest player in NFL history to both reach 100 receptions and 1,000 yards in a single season.
With Smith, Smith-Schuster and Casey's nominations this year, a total of 238 Trojans have made the Pro Bowl since its inception.
The 2019 Pro Bowl will take place on January 27, 2019 at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Fla.
