Recess With The Stars
October 23, 2018 | Football, Trojan Outreach, Features
Earlier this month, Trojan Outreach partnered with Playworks to host "Recess with the Stars" at Griffin Elementary School as part of the Real Players Don't Bully campaign.
Playworks' mission is to create a space for every child to feel included, be active and build valuable social and emotional skills. They created the "Recess with the Stars" program to get kids active and help them develop their social-emotional skills.
USC football player Daniel Imatorbhebhe joined actors Harold Perrineau and Logan Browning, former NBA star Baron Davis, musician Jake Miller and many more celebrities to have a fun-filled day of recess with a large group of elementary students ages 5 though 9. The children played classic childhood games like four square and Marco Polo and enjoyed extra time on the playground's jungle gym.
The social-emotional skill building games allowed the children to receive new tactics and learning tools to build on friendship and become more social. These interactions will encourage children to be more inclusive and respectful and play healthy games during recess.
Playworks' core values are to integrate play, inclusion and respect and to build a healthy community to all children. Imatorbhebhe, Trojan Outreach and Playworks also hoped to teach the children how to navigate leadership, conflict resolution and academic success.
