Position: WR
Class: Freshman
Size: 6-foot-4, 205 lbs.
Age: 18
High School (Hometown): Desert Pines HS (Las Vegas)
Game: Much like the previous No. 9 JuJu Smith-Schuster, Grimes showed up at USC as a physically impressive wide receiver. He has had to grow on the mental side of the game, learning his playbook and adapting to the college game. Lately, he has made a move into consideration for playing time, joining the team on the trip to Cal. As the USC offense continues to search for more weapons in the passing game, Grimes could have his number called.
Prep Career: As a senior in 2016, Grimes mostly played quarterback, throwing for 1,003 yards with 9 TDs and leading his team to the state 3A tittle. He earned 2016 Tacoma News Tribune Western 100, Prep Star All-West Region and Las Vegas Review-Journal All-State honorable mention for his efforts that year. As a 2015 junior, he posted 26 receptions for 548 yards (21.1 avg) with 7 TDs, ran for 127 yards on 14 carries (9.7 avg) with 1 TD and made 9 tackles as a safety, earning All-State Division I-A first team honors.
USC offensive coordinator Tee Martin on Grimes: "Randal's super, super talented. He's just got to come along in terms of knowing what to do and being able to do it fast."
Fun Fact: Grimes' older brother, Nate, plays basketball at Fresno State.
