Position: LB
Class: Freshman
Size: 6-foot-3, 220 lbs.
Age: 19
High School (Hometown): Westlake (Austin, TX)
Game: Jones stood out in the first week of Fall Camp as he has a knack for sifting through traffic to make the play. Since then, he has earned a spot on the second line of the depth chart, which made him the next man up against Texas when Cameron Smith hurt his hand late in the game. Otherwise, Jones is trying to make an imprint on special teams as he masters the mental side of the game to go along with his physical gifts.
Prep Career: As a senior linebacker at Westlake, Jones posted 103 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, 4 sacks, 4 deflections and 2 forced fumbles en route to 2016 Prep Star All-American, Max Preps All-American second team and USA Today All-Texas first team honors. As a junior in 2015, he had 116 tackles, 6 tackles for loss, 6 sacks, 4 deflections, 2 fumble recoveries, 1 forced fumble and 1 blocked field goal.
USC head coach Clay Helton on Jones: "We see his athleticism, and he's picked up the playbook really fast. He's one of those kids, and Clancy [Pendergast] said it, he may make his mistake, but when he tells him, 'Hey, let's correct this,' he immediately does it and you don't see it again. And that's what you want from a player ... Great athleticism, and great football instincts."
Fun Fact: Football runs in Jones' family, starting with his father, Robert, who won three Super Bowls in 10 years with the Dallas Cowboys. His oldest brother, Cayleb, played for the Vikings for one year, while his brother Isaiah (Zay) is a rookie WR for the Buffalo Bills. His uncle and cousin also played football.
