After winning the program's second national championship in 2016, USC women's soccer comes in at No. 3 in the 2017 United Soccer Coaches preseason poll.
The Trojans are slotted behind No. 1 West Virginia -- the team they defeated in the national title game last December -- and No. 2 Stanford. The No. 3 ranking is USC's highest since 2008, when the team was ranked No. 1 following its first NCAA title.
USC had five players selected in the 2017 NWSL Draft, but the Trojans are still loaded with talent. Senior Alex Anthony, who tied for the team lead with 10 goals scored last season, will lead the way on offense this year. Junior Ally Prisock, who was recently named to the MAC Hermann Award Watch List, and sophomore Julia Bingham will hold down the defense.
Head coach Keidane McAlpine begins his fourth season at USC on Friday, Aug. 11 with an exhibition game against UC Irvine. The 2017 season officially commences on Friday, Aug. 18 at 3 p.m. against UC Davis. During that game, USC will unveil its 2016 national championship banner.
