Trojan Outreach Takes On The Community
August 30, 2017 | Trojan Outreach, USC Ripsit Blog
School is back in session and USC's Trojan Outreach Program is gearing back up to get student-athletes engaged in the community.
Earlier this month, all USC student-athletes heard from Athletes For Hope CEO Ivan Bloomberg, who encouraged them to develop their own approach to giving back to the community. Each of USC's 21 teams will complete a SCORE (Serving Community through Outreach, Recreation and Education) project this year based on the players' and coaches' passions.
USC women's basketball's SCORE project will take them to the Jenesse Center, a domestic violence intervention program in south Los Angeles. The Women of Troy will sponsor and help make over an apartment that will be rented free of charge for two years by a family that's suffered from domestic violence
Football will build a family a house, men's basketball will host a Special Olympics youth clinic, track & field will participate in the Jackson Foundation's Turkey Dinner Giveaway and women's golf will host children from The First Tee in a youth clinic.
Outside of each team's SCORE project, Trojan Outreach is putting on several other events this year.
On Sept. 16, USC football and the Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work are teaming up to host a sneaker drive to help tackle homelessness. Fans attending the Sept. 16 USC vs. Texas football game at the Coliseum are encouraged to bring a pair of new sneakers to the game and drop them off at the Peristyle, or Gate 1, 19 or 23.

USC is also participating in the College Football Playoff's Extra Yard For Teachers week this fall, and putting on LA's Best Health Fest. USC's tennis teams will lead a warmup at the Health Fest, before the approximately 3,000 children attend a USC women's volleyball match that afternoon.
Other events this year include the seventh annual Community Bowl, a Girls Play Holiday party, a Trojans in Training Leadership Summit and more.
