Mock Game Thursday: Notes
August 24, 2017 | Football, USC Ripsit Blog, Features
The Trojans held their last open practice of Mock Game Week on Thursday.
- OL Viane Talamaivao (foot) and TE Daniel Imatorbhebhe (hip flexor) were held from practice today.
- Despite Imatorbhebhe's absence, USC head coach Clay Helton is confident in the tight end position with just over a week to go until game day. "To be able to have a Cary Angeline, a Tyler Petite and two young bucks in Josh Falo and Erik Krommenhoek, we have a lot of tight ends right now that we feel are very capable of doing the job."
- Helton called Western Michigan -- USC's opening opponent -- "an extremely dangerous team" and will treat Saturday's mock game as a real game against the Broncos.
- Helton said that for the younger players, understanding USC's pregame routine will be crucial this weekend, and for the coaches, getting communication down will be key.
- Helton continued to sing the praises of one young player: OL Andrew Vorhees. The freshman, who has practiced at both tackle and guard, is an "extremely intelligent, football-smart kid who picks up the play book very, very easily."
