This weekend, many Trojan NFL vets took the field for their first preseason games of 2017, while USC's newcomers stepped onto the NFL stage for the first time ever.
Steelers rookie JuJu Smith-Schuster notched the first catch (for 4 yards) and carry (for 9 yards) of his NFL career, while Titans rookie Adoree' Jackson netted his first 3 tackles, in addition to two punt returns for 6 yards. Chiefs rookie Leon McQuay III made his first 2 tackles as well.
USC's undrafted rookies also competed in their first preseason games, aiming to prove themselves heading into roster cuts. RB Justin Davis showed promise in his return to the L.A. Memorial Coliseum with the Rams, taking 9 carries for 70 yards, plus a reception for 7 yards. His debut wasn't perfect though, as he fumbled twice, losing one. Isaac Whitney hauled in 1 pass for 9 yards in his debut with the Oakland Raiders.
USC's other standouts included Vikings DE Everson Griffen, Packers LB Nick Perry and Jets DE Leonard Williams, who each recorded a sack.
USC's most seasoned veteran, Cardinals QB Carson Palmer, went 4-for-8 for 39 yards and a TD in his preseason debut. Matt Barkley, meanwhile, made his debut as a QB for the 49ers, going 10-for-17 for 168 yards.
The NFL's Trojans are back in action this Thursday through Monday.
