Junior LB Cameron Smith is up for three defensive awards
If there's an award out there for which a college quarterback is eligible, Sam Darnold is on the watch list. The redshirt sophomore is a candidate for the Maxwell Award, Walter Camp Player of the Year, and Davey O'Brien Award (nation's top QB).
But Darnold is not the only Trojan in the preseason spotlight. LB Cameron Smith is also pegged for three awards, the Bednarik and Nagurski for best defensive player and the Butkus for best linebacker. OLB Porter Gustin joins Smith on the Butkus and Bednarik lists, while OLB Uchenna Nwosu is also featured for the Butkus.
On the offensive side, RS sophomore Daniel Imatorbhebhe is up for the Mackey Award (nation's top tight end), while junior Ronald Jones II is in the running for the Doak Walker Award (nation's top running back). OL Nico Falah combines his football talent with a charitable spirit and scholastic success which appeals to the Wuerffel Trophy.
Punters are people too! Last but not least, Chris Tilbey made the Ray Guy Award (nation's top punter) watch list.
