Watch List Season Begins

USC QB Sam Darnold, LB Porter Gustin, LB Cam Smith and CB Iman Marshall are being eyed for major postseason awards.
USC QB Sam Darnold was named to the Maxwell Award Watch List, identifying the nation's most outstanding players. While on the other side of the ball, OLB Porter Gustin, ILB Cam Smith and CB Iman Marshall were placed on the Bednarik Award Watch List.

Darnold is being tabbed as a favorite for every major award in college football, including the Maxwell, which has not been won by a Trojan since Marcus Allen in 1981. The redshirt sophomore quarterback impressed in his debut season, going 9-1 as a starter, capped by an emphatic Rose Bowl Offensive MVP performance.
The Trojans have tremendous depth of talent on defense as only Florida State had more players called out by the Bednarik Award. Gustin and Smith will look to carry on the linebacker legacy of Rey Maualuga, the only Trojan to ever win the Bednarik. Marshall will have to blaze his own trail, filling the shoes of Thorpe Award winner Adoree' Jackson as the marked man in USC's secondary.
