USC Fourth In 2016-17 Directors’ Cup, Second In Women’s Capital One Cup

LOS ANGELES--USC finished fourth in the 2016-17 Division I Learfield Directors' Cup standings for a program-best third consecutive Top 5 placing, while the Women of Troy came in second in the Women's Capital One Cup after winning it a year ago.
The Directors' Cup is an annual ranking of the athletic performance of the nation's 289 Division I athletic departments, determining the most broad-based program by combining men's and women's finishes in 10 sports each. USC has now had four consecutive Top 10 finishes in the Directors' Cup, including a program-best third in 2014-15 (this year, USC finished just 1.25 points behind third place Florida). Since the Directors' Cup program began in 1993-94, USC has had 16 Top 10 finishes.
The Women's Capital One Cup is an annual all-sports competition that determines the best women's Division I collegiate athletics program. USC captured its first-ever Women's Capital One Cup last season. There is also a men's competition in the Capital One Cup, with USC placing in the Top 15 this year. Points toward the Capital One Cup are based on final standings in each of the 21 NCAA championships for women and 19 for men. The Capital One Cup program is in its seventh year.
In the just-concluded 2016-17 athletic season, USC had 14 teams finish in the Top 20 in NCAA championship competition, with 12 in the Top 10, including NCAA crowns by the women's soccer and women's beach volleyball teams. Men's water polo finished second, women's outdoor track was third, women's water polo and women's golf tied for third, women's indoor track was fourth, men's golf and women's lacrosse tied for fifth, men's swimming was sixth, women's swimming was ninth, men's tennis tied for ninth, men's basketball tied for 17th and men's outdoor track tied for 20th. Women's volleyball and women's tennis tied for 33rd. Football was third in the final coaches poll.
USC currently fields 12 women's and 9 men's sports.
