Muhammad & Harris Win Titles At USA Track & Field Championships

Cockrell breaks her Trojan freshman 400m hurdles record
Alumni Dalilah Muhammad won the women's 400m hurdles title and Aleec Harris won the men's 110m hurdles title, while Deanna Hill and Anna Cockrell competed in event finals  during the closing day of the USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships held in Sacramento, Calif. today (June 25). Trojans that will be representing Team USA at the World Championships in London, England from Aug. 4-13 will be Nia Ali (100m hurdles), Kendall Ellis (400m), Allyson Felix (400m), Aleec Harris (110m hurdles) and Muhammad (400m hurdles).

- 2016 Olympic gold medalist Muhammad (USC, 2012) won her second USA title in the women's 400m hurdles to go along with her 2016 USA Olympic Trials win by running a PR of 52.64, the fastest time in the world this season. Anna Cockrell placed eighth in the women's 400m hurdles final with a PR of 55.14. That time also broke her USC freshman record in the event. Jaide Stepter (USC, 2016) placed seventh in the event with a time of 55.06.
- Harris (USC, 2014) won the men's 110m hurdles title with a time of 13.24 (-1.7). He advanced to the finals earlier in the day with the second-fastest qualifying time of 13.44 (-0.9). Marquis Morris placed sixth in his 110m hurdles semifinal and 14th overall with a time of 13.94 (-0.9).Â
- Deanna Hill placed sixth in the women's 200m final with a time of 23.04 (-2.5). She advanced to the finals earlier in the day by taking fourth in her semifinal heat with a time of 23.11 (-1.2). Felix advanced to the finals with the second-fastest qualifying time of 22.62 (-1.4), but did not run as she is already qualified in the 400m as the reigning world champion in the event.
- Matthew Katnik opened up in the men's shot put with a PR of 62-9.50 (19.14m) in the first round and ultimately placed 11th in the competition on the strength of that throw. His second attempt went for 59-11.75 (18.28m) and his final throw went for 62-6.00 (19.05m). Two of Katnik's marks went over 19 meters and he had only topped the mark twice before in his career.
