No. 7 USC Extends Lead At Southern Highlands Collegiate
March 07, 2017 | Men's Golf
The No. 7 USC men's golf team lost all of its first-round lead on moving day, but collected it all back and then some, thanks in no small part to sophomore Justin Suh's 4-under 68, and finished the second round of the Southern Highlands Collegiate with a six-stroke lead on Tuesday (March 7) at the Southern Highlands G.C. in Las Vegas.
USC, the event's defending champion and a two-time winner this season, was 3-over today but still leads at 7-under 569 (278-291), ahead of both Stanford and Oklahoma State, tied at 1-under 575. Pepperdine, who led for some of the second round, is fourth at 3-over 579.
Suh moved into sole possession of second thanks to an eagle on 13 and a birdie on 18 that brought him to within one stroke of California's Collin Morikawa. Suh, who has two top 10s this year including one second-place finish, had six birdies on the day.
Junior Sean Crocker (68-74) and freshman Cheng Jin (69-73) are tied for eighth at 2-under 142. Crocker, looking for his seventh straight top 16 finish, had three birdies on the day, Jin two.
Senior Rico Hoey, with a five-tournament streak of top 10 finishes on the line, is tied for 36th at 5-over 149 (71-78) while senior Andrew Levitt is tied for 49th at 7-over 151 (75-76).
